Lucques Ribfest #1! Sunday Supper in Los Angeles!

Ribfest #1 happened a month ago... but in honor of Ribfest #2 (8/15/2010), I thought I'd post my experience from the first showdown with meat this year at Lucques Restaurant in Los Angeles.

Lucques is a renowned restaurant, with a star chef, Suzanne Goin, who has been nominated for a James Beard Award ("the Oscar of our world" as described by the restaurant host).  Anyhow, this is how it all happened... My man and I had a Groupon to the restaurant Taste, which is located next door to Lucques (this was on a Saturday night).  I'd been dying to try Lucques, and our reservation at Taste wasn't for a few minutes... so we sauntered over to Lucques to have a look.

Providence Restaurant- A Michelin Starred Anniversary Dinner!

So, a couple of friends were in town from Hong Kong, who just so happen to love food as much as we do.  We decided to bring them to the restaurant Providence, which we've heard oh, so much about.  It's one of the only restaurants in Los Angeles with Michelin stars (2 stars actually)... and the Chef Michael Cimarusti has received much praise for his work.  Recently, he was featured in Bon Appetit as a "leader of the newest generation of chefs".  Gah, my mouth is watering just thinking about it again.

We were there for our anniversary, and it was Providence's anniversary month as well!  So, we ordered the 5 course tasting menu, which was on special for $65 just for the month of June (it's usually $85, and a little too steep for a non-special occasion meal).

Korean Barbeque + World Cup Madness!: Road to Seoul!

Koreans are feeling the pride in LA!  With the World Cup underway, I can feel Korean pride in full effect... from game viewings at the Staples center and Koreatown Galleria to Korea T-shirts and Jerseys being sported all over town.  It's been great to be a fellow Asian in this proud City.

check it out- my buddy Di in S. Africa sporting Korea gear!

In commemoration of all the exciting events, we organized a big ol' night of all you can eat Korean BBQ at Road to Seoul on Western Ave.  OMG, was it fantastic!  I've been to my fair share of all you can eat K BBQ places in LA, and was thoroughly impressed by the service and the quality of meat at Road to Seoul.  We had a party of 20 people, and they kept the food and drink coming just as quickly as we could order.  It was REALLY SATISFYING after my mystery stomach bug this week.

Anyway, what would a night be in Koreatown w/o some karaoke?  We ended the night in style at Feel karaoke, which was probably the nicest karaoke place I've ever been.  There were plush couches that wrapped the space, and a huge "dance floor area" at the center of the room.

It was a grand time.  Woohoo Korea!  Thanks for giving us a reason to celebrate!  and HAPPY WEEKEND!

Farmer's Market and Healthy Lunch in Mar Vista

The weekend has been more relaxing than most in the recent past.  I look forward to Sundays more than any other day, because I feel like it really is the day that we allow ourselves to be leisurely, but we're also committed to our routine of running all our food errands for the week.
Most Sundays we'll roll out of bed late, and either fix up some eggs at home, or run over to the local Chinese restaurant to get our fix of Dim Sum.  This morning, we didn't do either of those things... but decided to check out a different farmer's market that we'd been hearing about instead.  It was the Mar Vista Farmer's Market!
